Celebrating 25 Years of TFS: Free Films for TFS Members in January, 2025!
As we approach our 25th anniversary in 2025, we want to take a moment to reflect on our journey and express our gratitude for your unwavering support. It all began in 2000, at the Miracle Theater where The Tallahassee Film Society (TFS) presented its first film - "Girl on the Bridge" (1999). We played it twice and it nearly sold out both showings.
Well . . . 25 years and hundreds of films later, TFS continues to show independent, foreign, and documentary films in Tallahassee. We went from The Miracle Theater to various venues around town, then the Gray Building Museum of Florida History 2003-2005, and when Amtrak staff moved out of the station in 2004, agreement was reached with Amtrak and Leon County allowing TFS to transform the former train station into a micro cinema.
Of course, there were a few bumps along the way! The COVID pandemic forced us to close the cinema for two years and then reconstruction of the building and the general area added another year of closure. In spring of 2023, we were excited to reopen only to be shut down May 10, 2024 by a tornado that removed our roof. While the building is fixed, Alan Hanstein has graciously offered his IMAX screen for use for TFS film screenings which is where we are now (and anticipate being for all or most of 2025).
To honor our valued members who have supported our programming over the years and to celebrate the beginning of our next 25 years, we are excited to offer "free admission to all TFS shows at the IMAX during January, 2025. This offer is exclusive to active TFS members and requires the presentation of your active TFS member card at the door. Usual ticket prices will apply to all non-members.
Here's what we have lined up for January:
Dusty and Stones - January 5 and 6
Soundtrack of a Coup D'Etat - January 12 and 13
Oh Canada - January 19, 20, 26 and 27
Thank you for being a part of the TFS community. We look forward to celebrating with you in January.
